Conflict between doctors and patients is not an excuse for violence

In the morning of September 3rd in 2012, a man with a surname in Shenzhen carried four knives and slashed four medical staff and guards at the ENT department of Shenzhen Pengcheng Hospital. Among them, two medical staff with serious injuries were Shenzhen People’s Hospital and Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital underwent surgical treatment and none of them are at risk.

They were originally comrades in the same trench, and their common enemy was disease. Today, however, due to various conflicts between doctors and patients, they have become enemies of each other.

The contradictions between doctors and patients are inevitable contradictions in China during the period of social transformation. The causes of contradictions involve a wide range. First of all, the country's medical security is obviously inadequate. India is free of charge for all citizens, and China is still talking about the difficulty of seeing a doctor. Secondly, there is no contradiction between doctors and patients. It is a system problem. Patients or their families only give dissatisfaction to the last link, the doctor. The hospital’s assessment system is now based on prescribing medicines, and this can be said to be unscientific. In addition, China's pharmaceutical companies are now very wealthy. Only a few cents of raw materials can be purchased in tens or even hundreds. This profit is terrible. Finally, the qualifications of doctors need to be carefully grasped.

In spite of this, violence will not only fail to solve these problems; on the contrary, it will make these problems more serious and even more intractable. Too often, we have become accustomed to rethinking the social background of the violent incident. We are not aware of this reflection. Sometimes it is irrelevant. Even in the Zhou Kehua case, a similar situation occurred. Rethinking the social background and restoring the perpetrator's three-dimensional life is a kind of progress, but we must be vigilant that when reflection on the social context transcends the reflection on violence itself, violence may be beautified, and it is even possible to “rationalize” it. .
