Recently, VNUS Medical Technology's new generation of RF catheters, ClosureFAST, has been approved by the US FDA for intravascular coagulation in patients with superficial venous reflux.
The ClosureFAST catheter is used in conjunction with the company's RFG Plus RF transmitter to heat the reflux saphenous vein and cause it to shrink and occlude within 3 to 5 minutes. The device controls the temperature of the vein wall during treatment, avoiding venous perforation and associated pain and congestion after treatment.
According to prior clinical trials, all catheters (>70) were immediately closed at 100% after treatment with this catheter, and remained closed except for one after 3 days.
