Medical + car or license to help resolve heart attack

We often hear news that the driver is unfortunate enough to have a heart attack or other unexpected health conditions when driving a vehicle, causing a tragic tragedy.

Based on this reality, Toyota is considering integrating advanced medical technology into automobile production to predict the occurrence of similar events and to stop the vehicle quickly and safely.

Indeed, autonomous vehicles will one day dominate the world, so you may feel that such a technique is somewhat ribbed. However, the widespread adoption of driverless vehicles will take time. Before it enters thousands of households, Toyota's plan is an effective and safe measure to reduce casualties.

To develop the system, Toyota's Security Research Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, has been working with Kayvan Najarian, director of data science at the Michigan Intensive Care Integrated Research Center.

Najarian told the Michigan Medical School: " As health care organizations continue to improve, the number of older drivers will increase, which may increase the number of medical incidents caused by car accidents."

The team pointed out that the program mainly embeds an algorithmic power system in the car to monitor and predict adverse cardiac activities and status.

One of the main challenges is the need to create an effective algorithm that can accurately predict the heart condition. After all, wrong parking is not only an annoying thing, but also a nerve-tight experience for the driver. If a stop means they may be suffering from heart disease, how terrible it is. The psychological suggestion...

If the prediction is not accurate, the driver took a long time to prepare himself, and found that there was nothing wrong with it. It was really embarrassing.

In addition, accurate monitoring depends on how the technology will be combined with vehicle production. Pujitha Gunaratne from Toyota said:

“One of the challenges for vehicle applications is that the system must be able to detect very small changes in the heart rhythm and be able to identify other noise areas in the car.”

He added: "The Intensive Care Integrated Research Center has a variety of mechanisms to ensure that monitors are not subject to electrical interference. But if you are in the car, it is not easy to avoid interference."

Currently, the team is choosing among a variety of hardware materials for on-board sensors and displays that can be installed in various parts of the car, such as seat belts and steering wheels.

They can also collect driver's physiological data for their algorithms through a formally approved heart monitor.

Although such a medical emergency is very rare, such a system can effectively prevent the driver from losing further damage or even death caused by the control of the vehicle; if the system automatically sends a signal to the nearest hospital, the medical staff can reach The availability of this system can be further improved by providing medical assistance at the location of the vehicle.

In fact, many car manufacturers have already begun to try to install a health monitoring system in the car.

In 2011, Ford announced the invention of a heart rate sensing seat. At the time, Ford said that he was studying the embedded heart rate monitor in the seat and wanted to use it to measure the driver's stress level.

Among them, the car seat will monitor the driver's heartbeat through the six sensors on the backrest to detect the electrical impulses of the heart.
