With the DaVinci system, doctors can sit in a separate console. The robot system has a total of four robotic arms. “ Eighty percent of the surgery I do is laparoscopic surgery, which requires surgical instruments,” says Nicholas Draeger, one of the three surgeons authorized by Aurora to use the robotic system. "The difference in this robotic system is that your hands are at your disposal. In traditional laparoscopic surgery, you need an assistant to take a camera with the camera. Now, this task can be replaced by a robot."

According to Aurora's surgeon, the camera provides 3D live video on the doctor's console screen, which is a huge improvement over traditional video screens in traditional laparoscopic surgery.

"In laparoscopic surgery, you have to train your own ability to be well-informed. You may see the big picture, but you may not be aware of the problem," said Aurora's urology surgeon Jeffrey Tomasini.

Compared to traditional surgical instruments, robotic systems with three robotic arms are more flexible and have a wider range of activities. One of the design highlights of this instrument is the wrist connection, which increases the range of motion and reduces the tremor of the machine, even if the doctor's hand moves.

“There are four different levels of movement in traditional laparoscopic medical devices, and now we have six,” Tomasini said. “The two new additions will make a big difference.”

Despite being called a robotic system, Da Vinci is not fully automated, it can't run its own functions, it requires the surgeon to enter instructions to perform the surgery. The doctor runs the machine through the joystick at the console, while the doctor's assistant stands at the bedside to exchange tools while monitoring the patient's condition.
